Position Overview
The Web Department Director will be responsible for shaping the vision and direction for Media Components' web services. This remote position requires strong expertise in WordPress, Shopify, and Wix, along with knowledge of website hosting, domain management, monthly website management supervision, uptime management, and web security supervision. The ideal candidate will have at least 4+ years of experience in web development and 3+ years in a leadership role. Fluent spoken and written English is essential for effective communication with clients on calls and in meetings.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning and Development
- Define the strategic direction for the web department, ensuring alignment with company objectives and client expectations.
- Identify and capitalize on opportunities for innovation and growth in web services, including emerging trends and technologies.
Project Oversight and Management
- Oversee all web projects, ensuring quality standards, on-time delivery, and adherence to budgets.
- Manage project workflows and resources effectively in a fully remote environment.
Team Leadership and Development
- Lead and mentor a diverse remote team of developers, designers, and UX specialists.
- Conduct performance reviews, facilitate training programs, and encourage continuous skill development.
Client Relationship Management
- Serve as the main point of contact for client communications, managing calls and meetings with professional and fluent English.
- Collaborate with account managers to align on client goals, expectations, and deliverables.
Platform Expertise and Hosting Knowledge
- Provide advanced expertise in WordPress, Shopify, and Wix, guiding the team in best practices for development, customization, and optimization.
- Supervise website hosting and domain management, ensuring smooth transitions, renewals, and migrations.
Monthly Website Management Supervision
- Oversee ongoing monthly website management services, including content updates, plugin and theme maintenance, and performance optimization.
- Monitor uptime management, ensuring sites remain operational with minimal disruptions.
- Supervise web security measures, including routine audits, vulnerability testing, and immediate resolution of security threats.
Quality Assurance and Best Practices
- Implement and maintain high standards for UX/UI design, accessibility, and SEO optimization.
- Lead QA processes to ensure compatibility, functionality, and performance across all web platforms.
Budgeting and Financial Oversight
- Manage the department’s budget, provide accurate project estimates, and track financial performance.
- Ensure projects meet profitability goals while maintaining client satisfaction.
Resource Management and Staffing
- Assess staffing needs and collaborate with HR for recruitment, onboarding, and remote team integration.
- Allocate resources effectively to manage multiple projects and ensure balanced workloads.
Cross-Department Collaboration
- Work closely with other departments, including marketing, content, and analytics, to deliver cohesive digital solutions.
- Ensure web initiatives align with and support broader agency campaigns.
Performance Analysis and Reporting
- Develop KPIs for web projects and department performance, using analytics to improve processes.
- Provide regular updates to senior leadership on project progress and departmental initiatives.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement
- Stay informed about the latest trends in web development, hosting, and security to ensure competitive service offerings.
- Drive continuous improvements in tools, processes, and team practices to enhance efficiency and client satisfaction.
Qualifications
Experience:
- 4+ years in web development or digital marketing.
- 3+ years in a leadership role, managing remote or hybrid teams.
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in WordPress, Shopify, and Wix, including customization and optimization.
- Proficient in website hosting, domain management, uptime monitoring, and web security supervision.
- Solid understanding of UX/UI principles, accessibility standards, and SEO best practices.
Communication:
- Fluent in spoken and written English, with the ability to lead client calls and provide professional consultation.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Web Development, Digital Marketing, or a related field (preferred but not mandatory with relevant experience).
