About the Role
As a Senior WordPress Engineer at Rivet Hammer, you will lead the development, deployment, and scaling of high-performing WordPress websites. Your role will span custom WordPress development, managing API integrations, and overseeing cloud-based infrastructure on AWS to ensure seamless scaling and top-tier performance.
You’ll collaborate closely with designers, project managers, and engineers to create exceptional digital experiences for our diverse client base.
Key Responsibilities
Custom WordPress Development
- Design, build, and maintain custom WordPress themes and plugins from scratch.
- Extend WordPress core functionalities through innovative solutions and integrations.
- Write and maintain clean, reusable, and well-documented PHP code.
API Integration and Management
- Develop and manage custom WordPress APIs to integrate with third-party platforms and systems.
- Implement reliable, scalable RESTful API solutions.
- Optimize API performance and ensure robust security.
AWS Infrastructure Management
- Manage WordPress deployment and scaling on AWS cloud infrastructure.
- Set up and maintain services such as EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront, and Load Balancers for scalable and secure WordPress hosting.
- Optimize infrastructure for performance, uptime, and cost-efficiency.
- Automate deployments using CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
Full-Stack Development
- Work on front-end and back-end development tasks, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
- Collaborate with UX designers to create responsive and visually stunning websites.
- Leverage modern front-end frameworks (React, Vue.js) as needed.
Performance and Optimization
- Improve site speed and performance, addressing Core Web Vitals and technical SEO.
- Utilize advanced caching strategies and database optimization techniques.
- Debug and resolve performance bottlenecks and website issues.
Team Collaboration and Leadership
- Mentor junior developers and promote a culture of technical excellence.
- Collaborate with project managers to deliver high-quality solutions on time.
- Contribute to defining technical standards, best practices, and architectural decisions.
Testing and Deployment
- Conduct thorough testing to identify and fix bugs pre- and post-deployment.
- Manage deployments across local, staging, and production environments using version control tools like Git and CI/CD pipelines.
Requirements
Technical Expertise
- Proven experience in full-stack WordPress development (themes, plugins, and APIs).
- Strong proficiency in PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and MySQL.
- Expertise in building custom WordPress plugins from scratch.
- Familiarity with modern front-end libraries/frameworks (e.g., React, Vue.js).
AWS Cloud Infrastructure
- Hands-on experience managing WordPress deployments on AWS.
- Proficiency with AWS services like EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront, and Load Balancers.
- Ability to automate deployments with CI/CD tools and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Strong understanding of scaling WordPress for high-traffic environments.
API and Integration Skills
- Advanced experience with building and managing custom RESTful APIs.
- Integration expertise with third-party platforms (e.g., CRMs, analytics, payment gateways).
Performance Focus
- Demonstrated expertise in optimizing WordPress performance for speed and scalability.
- Knowledge of tools like Lighthouse, GTmetrix, SEMRush, or similar for performance auditing.
Soft Skills
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with teams and clients.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
